Diesel supply to be hit

October 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The truck owners’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) is supporting the nation wide indefinite strike call given by All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC).

The AIMTC is demanding amendment in the existing toll fee collecting process at toll plazas, besides scrapping the move to install speed governors in existing trucks.

The JAC in the State is demanding that the government withdraw four per cent VAT on fuel, besides other demands. With the petrol tankers joining the strike, supply of diesel to APSRTC too will be hit. But RTC officials claimed necessary arrangements were already made and diesel was stocked in all the depots and this would be sufficient for about six days. Everyday, RTC requires seven lakh litres to operate its 12,000 buses.

More importantly, RTC claimed it was prepared to extend support to district administrations to transport vegetables, onions, milk and other essential commodities.
