Chaos is likely to prevail over city during Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s ‘Nava Nirmana Deeksha’ on June 2 as an additional 5,000 vehicles, ferrying party workers and participants from different parts of the State will enter the city.

These vehicles will be in addition to the thousands that pass through the arterial routes in Vijayawada. While TDP leaders are leaving no stone unturned in making the event a grand success by mobilising people in large numbers, senior officials in coordination with District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) are planning to rope in the Dwcra women, National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREG) workers, farmers benefited from the loan waiver scheme and students for the programme.

“We are deploying buses to bring people from 27 mandals in Krishna district alone. A route officer will accompany each vehicle to bring the participants to the venue,” DRDA Project Director D. Chandrasekhar Raju said.

Traffic police officials said that elaborate arrangements were made for parking of vehicles. Those coming from Eluru side should park their vehicles at Government Polytechnic College. Participants arriving from Police Control Room (PCR) must park their vehicles at Siddhartha College while others coming from Guntur should park their vehicles at service road at Krishna Lanka.

Personnel from more than 20 government departments are taking up various works for the smooth conduct of ‘deeksha’. Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner G. Veerapandian said that drinking water kiosks, health camps and road repair works have already began. As many as 30,000 water bottles and sachets were kept redy for the participants.

“Besides road re-carpeting works, beautification of Benz Circle with saplings is on,” he added. Roads and Buildings department officials will be putting up barricades at Bandar Road, Skew Bridge, NTR Circle and Nirmala Convent Junction to restrict entry of vehicles as rallies will be taken out to culminate at the Benz Circle before Chief Minister leads the ‘deeksha’ signifying the completion of one year of bifurcation.

Meanwjhile, asked about the Benz Circle being chosen as the venue of the ‘Nava Nirmana Deeksha’ and the traffic diversions announced by police, DGP J.V. Ramudu said: “Please ask the State level issues. You (media) can clarify about the ‘deeksha’ with the local officers.”

When the journalists reminded that Mr. Naidu and a host of VVIPs are participating in the ‘deeksha’, the DGP who was not aware of the venue or the arrangements, inquired City Police Commissioner about the place readied for Nava Nirmana Deeksha.
