Vijayawada and Guntur are set to glow with decorative lights, covering a total distance of 150 km on October 20, 21 and 22, befitting a festival.

In addition to the arrangements at Uddandarayunipalem, the Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (AP-SPDCL) is working overtime tying strings of colour bulbs throughout the main roads and some important internal roads giving the cities a resplendent look.

Contractors from Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Nellore and other towns and even Hyderabad are being hired as those available locally are not in a position to meet the requirement.

A huge quantity of colour bulbs used during Godavari Pushkaram is being procured from Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (AP-EPDCL).

A senior official of SPDCL told The Hindu that the decorative lighting arrangements would be completed by October 19 evening and ready for the next three days. All main roads, particularly the stretch of highway from Gannavaram airport to Benz Circle and M.G and Eluru Roads will be decorated with lights spanning 100 kilometres.

The Railway Station and Pandit Nehru Bus Station areas will also be decked up. All government offices would be illuminating the buildings on their own. Similar things will be done in Guntur city.

Meanwhile, the SPDCL has installed two 315 KVA and four 160 KVA transformers at the venue.

Two more 315 KVA transformers and another six 160 KVA transformers will be set up at places where accommodation is provided for Most-Important Persons (MIP) and VVIPs. The sub-stations at Rayapudi and Mandadam have been spruced up and a new 6-km long conductor was laid to the venue.“In view of magnitude of the task, nearly 150 officers of SPDCL from assistant divisional engineer rank are deployed on the field to ensure there is no problem in power supply”. It is going to be a splash of colourful lighting across the cities covering road dividers, poles and even trees, the SPDCL official added.
