People of East Godavari district are in the grip of fear due to heavy rains along with strong winds from Sunday morning in coastal areas and in upland areas like Tuni and Tondangi mandals.

The district administration is fully prepared to face any eventuality in view of ‘Hudhud’ cyclonic storm that crossed Visakhapatnam coast but the cyclone is likely to hit the district badly.

According to Gandham Chandrudu, Special Officer of Tondangi mandal, several uprooted trees were cleared within hours and few huts were damaged completely in the mandal. The Pampa reservoir has crossed the 97-feet mark against its full capacity of 103 feet.

Electric poles are uprooted in Vakalagaruvu village in Mamidikuduru mandal of Konaseema and traffic came to a standstill between Jaggampeta and Visakhapatnam (about 97 kilometers) on National Highway from Saturday night.

According to AP Deputy Chief Minister N. Chinnarajappa, the administration has evacuated about 60,000 people to 323 relief camps from different areas in the district and food and milk is being supplied to them.
