The CPI(M) city unit will organise ‘Praja Council' on Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) budget on Friday.
CPI(M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao said that people organisations, analysts and citizens would take part in the Praja Council to be organised in front of VMC office. The government has not been conducting elections to urban local bodies though their term ended in 2010. The government has made a mockery of the 73 constitutional amendment by continuing special officers rule in the ULBs, he said, adding “there was no voice for commoner in the budgets presented by the special officers. Colony associations, people organisations could take part the council.”
Meanwhile CPI district secretary A.Vanaja, CPI (M) district secretary R. Raghu and others claimed the nationwide general strike was an unprecedented and historical success. The success of bandh and strike was clarion call for the governments to mend their policies. The people were up in arms against the spiralling prices. The liberalization and globalisation has widened the gap between haves and have-nots. The Left parties would take up massive agitations against the anti-people policies pursued by the state and central governments, they said.
