The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in representation to Central Team that came to assess the damage done by the heavy rain caused by Neelam cyclone asked that relief be released immediately to the people affected by the cyclone in the district immediately.

A delegation of party leaders lead by city secretary Ch.Babu Rao met the Central team at the sub-collector’s office and submitted a representation to it.

The delegation said that people in several areas in the city were subject to severe inconvenience by the floods caused in Budamerru by the cyclonic rains. He said the drainage system of the city was a big mess. Mr. Babu Rao said that steps should be taken for the permanent resolution of the problem. Budameru was inundating several residential areas of the city every now and then.

In a separate press release the party demanded that State Government to immediately release the palmoline quota to the cardholders. Though December was coming to an end palmoline quota had yet to be distributed to card-holders.

People living below the poverty line were being forced to buy cooking oil in the open market at rates that were exorbitant to them because of the delay in supply through the PDS, the press release said.
