CPI(M) picks holes in VMC budget

February 09, 2012 01:21 pm | Updated 01:21 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The annual budgets of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation are merely an eyewash and there was absolutely no comparison between the budget proposals and expenditure, former CPI(M) floor leader in Municipal Corporation Ch. Babu Rao said, while addressing a press conference here. He said that budget proposals for 2012-13 would be tabled at a special meeting to be held in the Municipal Corporation on Thursday. He said that only a fraction of the budget proposals were being spent every year and development had come to a stand still.

Analysing VMC budgets in the seven-year-rule of the Congress party, five years under the elected body and two years under the special officer, he said that total financial anarchy prevailed in the municipal corporation. He said the ruling Congress party had to take the responsibility for the special officer rule because they were indirectly influencing the officials. “It is the rule of MPs and MLAs and this is tantamount to Congress rule,” he said.
