CPI(M) faults police for seizing vehicles

January 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) took exception to seizure of vehicles by the City Police calling it trivial.

At a media conference here on Thursday, CPIM city secretary Ch. Babu Rao said that the police were seizing the vehicles even for meagre violations such as taking wrong route or jumping traffic signals.

Earlier, the police used to collect penalties for such violations. But, now the police were seizing the vehicles, causing lot of inconvenience to the two and three-wheeler owners, he said. The auto drivers were the worst hit by this seizure spree. They were losing employment for 15 days to one month as the vehicles seized were not being released immediately, he pointed out.

‘Turning blind eyes’

Mr. Babu Rao further said that the police had been turning a blind eye to car races, cock fights and land grabbing. But, the commoner was put to hardships with such never-before decisions, he said, urging the elected representatives to take stock of the situation and take necessary steps immediately.
