Be tough in maintaining law and order, focus on protecting women, children, Jagan Mohan Reddy tells personnel

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has recalled the services of the police personnel who laid down their lives while discharging their duties.

Mr. Reddy, along with Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharita, Director General of Police D. Gautam Sawang and other officers saluted the police martyrs and paid tributes at the pylon during the Smriti Parade (Police Commemoration Parade) at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium here on Monday.

The APSP Battalions and all the police personnel observed silence and paid homage to the personnel, who sacrificed their lives.

Book released

Mr. Reddy released a book ‘Amaruluveeru’ on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said police were discharging duties under a lot of pressure and to give them some relief the government had introduced a weekly off for them, which was a first in the country.

“One day off in a week will help the policemen spend time with family, take rest and serve the society better,” Mr. Reddy said.

Stating that all were equal before law, Mr. Reddy asked the police to be tough in maintaining law and order. Police should focus on giving protection for women and children, he said and assured them of support from the government in this regard.

Welfare measures

“I have seen the difficulties of the policemen and enhanced the salaries of home guards from ₹18,000 to ₹21,000. Compensation to home guards, in case of death, and insurance coverage is being provided to them.

“For policemen, insurance coverage will be given even after retirement,” Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said.

Minister pats force

Ms. Sucharita praised the efforts of the policemen in maintaining peace. She asked them to render justice to all. The DGP said that 292 personnel died while on duty in the last one year in the country and saluted the martyrs for their courage. He thanked the government for giving top priority to police welfare.

Chief Secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam, senior police officers Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, N.V. Surendra Babu, A.R. Anuradha and other officers among were those who paid homage to the police martyrs.
