CEC takes stock of election arrangements in State

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India Sunil Arora held separate parleys with leaders of political parties here on Monday on the arrangements for the general elections in the State.

Mr. Arora and his team obtained feedback from the politicians and inquired about the preparedness of the government with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gopal Krishna Dwivedi and additional CEO Vivek Yadav.

The status of enrolment of voters and functioning of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) came up for discussions which were held in camera.

Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa, Deputy Election Commissioners Umesh Sinha, Sandeep Saxena and Sudeep Jain, Director General Dilip Sharma, Additional DG Sheyphali Sharan and Principal Secretary S.K. Rudola were present.

The TDP was represented by K. Pattabhiram and G. Rajesh, YSR Congress by Kolusu Parthasarathy and T. Lakshma Reddy, BJP by Jupudi Rangaraju and G. Chittibabu, Congress by Tanthiya Kumari, CPI by Jalli Wilson and the CPI(M) by Y.V. Rao and J. Prabhakar.

In a letter to the CEC, CPI(M) leaders P. Madhu and Y.V. Rao complained of missing votes and urged that at least 10% of ballot papers from Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails be counted and tallied with the EVM.
