After transforming a stretch of the Ryves Canal bund near the Kurmaiah bridge, which was an open urination spot for years, into a scenic public hangout, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is going to add more life to it.
The civic body is all set to establish a mini food court on the canal front where eateries of top brands will run stalls on the lines of the food court coming up at the Padmavati Ghat.
Municipal Commissioner J. Nivas said that the food court proposed on Sambamurthy Road would have only about five shops and priority would be given to quality and branded eateries.
The civic body had invited proposals from interested parties who would establish, operate and maintain the food court. According to the officials, the operator should ensure that at least five chain eateries with nation-wide presence would sell snacks, traditional food, fast food and other items. The food court would be open for public till late night.
The transformed stretch of the bund had caught the attention of the district administration as well as the Amaravati Development Corporation which had decided to extend support to develop all the canal bunds in the city on the same lines.
The bund also featured colourful paintings on the canal walls apart from greenery and a footpath next to the road.
Council’s approval
On the other hand, the civic body has finalised a bidder for the Padmavati Ghat food court where at least 10 food stalls alongside play equipment for kids are expected to come up.
“One of the two bidders has been selected and the proposal would be put before the Municipal Council for approval in the next meeting,” Mr. Nivas said.
