Burning of Modi effigies criticised

October 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Describing the burning of effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an insult to him, BJP National Executive Committee member Somu Veerraju questioned why the Andhra Pradesh government was not reacting in the same way when the Chief Minister was targeted in such a despicable manner.

“The Prime Minister had never said that he would give Rs. 1 lakh crore financial assistance to A.P but he did nothing that would harm the interests of the fledgling State,” he told The Hindu over phone. “The Special Category Status (SCS) has been unnecessarily hyped up. The NITI Ayog has sought some clarifications on it and AP has replied to them. Is it not atrocious to make a fuss at this juncture ?” Mr. Veerraju said.

Our party leaders have been pointing out the irregularities in various projects including Polavaram and raising other issues with which the TDP was not comfortable. But, the (BJP) stand thereof should not be construed as distancing itself from its ally, he pointed out.
