The BJP’s decision to nominate its national executive member Somu Veerraju as its candidate for the Legislative Council seat under the MLAs’ quota has triggered a debate in the political circles over the possibilities of his elevation as a Minister in the State Cabinet in the coming days.
While a section of the TDP leaders said they were unsure over the course of action party president N. Chandrababu Naidu would take on the issue, another section claimed that the talk was being floated by the BJP leaders themselves.
“Several aspects will be considered in the selection of a candidate to the Cabinet and the exercise will be much deeper when it comes to accommodating allies,” a senior party leader told The Hindu .
Moreover, the BJP with its strength of four members in the Assembly was already given two berths in the Cabinet. “The scope for inclusion of one more member from the BJP arises only when the TDP is offered more berths in the Union Cabinet,” was how the senior leader reacted. Party sources are also unsure over the scope for change in the Cabinet composition in the immediate future as the party leadership was focussed on mounting pressure on the Centre to fulfil the assurances given to the State at the time of bifurcation.
