Urban Sketchers Singapore (USKSG), a non-profit network of artists in the South-East Asian island-nation, the Malaxmi Group, and the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati (CCVA) are jointly organising an exhibition of drawings of Amaravati, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, on the CCVA premises at Madhu Malaxmi Chambers in Moghalrajpuram here from January 10 to 31.

With the theme, ‘We Draw Amaravati Together’, the exhibition will feature the works of a group of 26 sketchers from the USKSG and four from various parts of India, including Andhra Pradesh, who visited 29 villages in Amaravati in 2017, in association with Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore, and supported by the Amaravati Partnership Office (APO) of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore.

‘Rich culture’

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, APO director (institutional development) Eric Tan said the USKSG was intended to facilitate the renaissance of art, culture, tradition and literature of A.P, particularly Amaravati, and thanked the Malaxmi Group and the CCVA for their support in hosting the exhibition.

He said, the artists captured the rich history, people, culture, and beauty of Amaravati, complemented by relevant archaeological artefacts contributed by the CCVA.

They produced over 200 sketches of Amaravati for documenting its heritage, culture, and landscapes, Mr. Tan said, recalling that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had visited the first exhibition at Temasek Polytechnic (Singapore), where over 50 drawings were featured, in June 2018. Now, 90 sketches were being displayed at the CCVA.

APO assistant director Lin Zixin, exhibition curator James Lim, Malaxmi Group founder and CCVA chairman Y. Harish Chandra Prasad and Malaxmi Property Ventures Pvt Ltd. CEO Sandeep Mandava were present.
