It is more than a week, and not a single driving licence and Registration Certificate (RC) book has been despatched by the Transport Department in the city owing to delay in supply of ribbons that are used in printers to print licences and RC books.
Nearly 1,800 RC books and 900 driving licences are yet to be distributed to the respective applicants in the city. Similar is the plight of applicants at Nandigama and Gudivada Regional Transport Offices and four unit offices at Vuyyuru, Jaggaiahpeta, Machilipatnam and Nuzvid in Krishna district.
“My bike’s temporary registration expired a few days ago, and traffic police are demanding RC book. When contacted, Transport Department officials say it will be delivered shortly,” says L. Sridhar, an applicant.
While, both transport and non-transport vehicles driving licences are issued at Vijayawada, Nandigama and Gudivada, unit offices issue only non-transport vehicle driving licences.
According to procedure, officials have to issue a fee receipt and test clearance receipt for driving applicants after they clear the driving licence test. In the afternoon session, driving licence are printed and despatched to the applicants through posts. Similarly, RC books are printed at respective RTO’s everyday and despatched through post. But, since June 22, printing and despatch of driving licences and RC books have been suspended owing to the delay in supply of ribbons. Officials said the issue was taken up with the higher authorities in Hyderabad, and that they had promised that ribbons would be supplied in a couple of days.
