State Government employees agitating for the last 63 days to protest against proposal of the bifurcation of the state adapted a Gandhian method to register their protest.
Employees and anganwadi workers under the banner of Women Development & Child Welfare Employees Association observed a day-long fast, ‘Samaikya Satyagraham’, at the venue ‘Jangala Zacharaih vedika,’ near the Collector’s office. The day also marked the formation day of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).
Leaders of APNGO, Guntur unit Rami Reddy and Dayananda Raju inaugurated the fast.
About 400 anganwadi workers, community development project officers and supervisors lent their support to agitating leaders of the association.
They later distributed sweet oranges to women travelling on the road.
State general secretary Sk. Mastan said that ICDS staff have already plunged into the agitation by undertaking a massive door-to-door programme, ‘Undamma Bottupedatha, randamma Samaikyandhra Udyamamolo,’ across the state . In Guntur district, they had covered 1.25 lakh houses and they have plan to cover 1.65 crore houses in the state.
Mr. Mastan said that a meeting of project directors of Women and Child Welfare Departments of 13 Seemandhra districts would be held on October 4 at Vijayawada to chalk out the future course of action.
Earlier, the members of APNGO association, Guntur Town unit took out a procession from the Potti Sriramulu Statue centre and paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Lalapet. Town president Dayananda Raju and district unit president Rami Reddy were present.
