To address health concerns and property-related disputes involving senior citizens, the Krishna District Senior Citizens’ Welfare Association has opened free medical and legal consultation centres.
The centres function from the Association office on the campus of Freedom Fighters’ Association hall on Gopalakrishnaiah Street near Bandar Locks. “Neglect and abuse of senior citizens by their own children are on the rise, resulting in serious health issues for them. Old age in itself is a bane that slows down even the most active individuals. Adding to their woes are property-related disputes in the family where the younger lot usually take undue advantage of their vulnerability. The degrading circumstances are the trigger for these centres,” Mothukuri Venkateswara Rao, Krishna district secretary of the Association said.
The health centre is open from Monday to Saturday, while those in need of legal consultation should visit the Association office on Sunday between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. The Association has also roped in dentist K. Geetha, endocrinologist Valluru Ramarao, ophthalmologist P. Ranganayakulu, general physicians E.S. Prabhakar, L. Subbarao, P. Krishnamurthy and M. Venkata Ratnam and ayurvedic physician T. Raghuram.
“We want senior citizens in need of medical or legal assistance to visit our centre and make use of the opportunity,” Mr. Venkateswara Rao said.
