The musicians of Mayur Orchestra paid a musical tribute to the living legend of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan, commemorating his 75th birthday by crooning around twenty super-hit songs depicting his on-screen persona at the Makineni Basavapunnaiah Vignana Kendram here on Sunday.

The programme titled ‘O Saathi Re.....featured songs of all moods and types and the outfit’s founder-director Mohammad Khaja occupied the centre-stage by singing the bulk of songs. Imitating Kishore Kumar and Mohammad Rafi with aplomb, he started the three-hour long musical journey with a sedate song ‘Rim Jim Gire Saawan.....from Manzil.

He rendered solos such as “O Saathi Re (Muqaddar Ka Sikandar), John Jaani Janardhan (Naseeb), Mere Anganeme (Laawaris) and Khaike Paan Banaraswala (Don) with ease and enlivened the atmosphere by crooning peppy and racy duets with Rekha, Pragna and Subhasri.

‘Padutha Theeyaga’ winner Rasool Babu played his role to perfection by singing “Dekha na Hayre (Bombay to Goa) and duet ‘Gori Ka Saajan (Aakhree Raasta). He left his stamp while singing “Bane Chaahe Dushman ( Dostana) with Mohammad.

Victory Advertising Director R. B. Balaji Kumar added a deft touch to the evening by singing “Zindagi Hasne Gaaneke liye’ from Zameer. Reheman and Riyaz were the other singers who enthralled the packed audience.

“Amitabh is not only entertaining us but also educating us as for how to carry on with life gracefully even while aging. His never-say-die attitude is something which should be emulated by all,” said Mohammad Khaja in his introductory remarks.

Manyam Properties K. Subrahmanyam, M & M Showroom A. Dinesh, Twills chairman Jayesh, Taal Musicals Saleem, along with senior journalist Turlapati Kutumba Rao, Rotarians M. C. Das, Pattabhi Ramaiah and others graced the evening.
