Sleuths of the Central Crime Station (CCS) arrested a couple and their accomplices for allegedly deceiving a person by selling fake gold. They recovered Rs. 2.80 lakh cash and fake gold from their possession.

The arrested include: T. Bala Veeraswamy, D. Pedda Venkateswara Rao and his wife Devalla Shivamma alias Derangula Nagamani, natives of Madala village in Guntur district.

Disclosing this to the newsmen here on Wednesday, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Addl. DCP, Crimes) G. Ramakoteswara Rao said the accused – Veera Swamy and Venkateswara Rao – were labourers and were involved in similar crimes earlier.

Nagamani told the complainant that her husband found a few gold biscuits while he was digging land and said they were in need of money and would sell gold at lesser price. Believing Nagamani, the victim introduced her brother, who was a resident of Yenamalakuduru in Vijayawada.

The gang gave a piece of original gold for testing and later they handed over fake gold. The accused collected Rs. 4 lakh from the party on October 6, this year and escaped. After noticing that they got cheated, the victim lodged a complaint with the police, said CCS Assistant Commissioner of Police G. Ramakrishna.

CCS Sub-Inspector V. Appa Rao was present at the press conference.
