Freedom fighter and founder of Pragathi Publishers Paruchuri Hanumantha Rao has been selected for this year's Shanti Swarna Pathakam (Peace Gold Medal), given by the Katragadda Gangaiah Memorial Committee.
In a statement on Sunday, former MLA and the committee convenor K. Subbaraju said the award, instituted by the late Katakam Bhaskar Rao in memory of the Katragadda Gangaiah who worked relentlessly to promote world peace during his life time, is given to an individual every year for striving to promote peace and brotherhood.
Recalling Mr. Hanumantha Rao's services as an artiste, a publisher and as promoter of peace in his pursuit to oppose wars, Mr. Subbaraju said in the publication field, he had earned worldwide accolades bringing laurels to the Andhra Pradesh State. He said recipients of the peace gold medal in the last couple of decades included president of World Peace Association Ramesh Chandra, Vemulapalli Srikrishna, Vavilala Gopalakrishnaiah, Chukkapalli Pitchaiah, C. Narayana Reddy, Kommareddy Raja Rammohan Rao, C. Raghavachari, Ponnam Veeraraghavaiah, Gudavalli Nageswara Rao, Jonna Narendra Dev, Kakaraparthi Venkateswarlu and Somuri Venkatramaiah.
