The Krishna University has been granted membership to the prestigious Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, with effect from the coming academic year, according to a press release from the Registrar.

Provisional membership was granted by the AIU governing council at a meeting on May 27. Initially membership is granted for a period of three years and then it is extended by two years before permanent membership is granted.

The membership enables the Krishna University (KU) to be on various committees of the AIU. The university will also be updated with the information relating to sports and youth affairs as it will be put on the AIU mailing list.

Meanwhile the monitoring and development committee (M&DC) of the Krishna University met on June 8 and took several important decisions.

All undergraduate, post-graduate, professional, autonomous, law and oriental colleges in Krishna district and are affiliated to Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) will be affiliated to the KU for the coming academic year (2010-11). Only the first year undergraduate courses of all the colleges in Krishna District will come under the purview of the KU in the forthcoming academic year. The second and third years will continue to be affiliated to ANU.

The existing status of all colleges affiliated to KU would be reviewed and inspection teams would be deployed to only those colleges that have a “poor track record of affiliation”.

The M&DC decided that the process of affiliation to all the colleges under its purview as per the letter written by Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department dated April 4, 2010 should be completed in 2011-12.

The committee decided that KU will conduct all examinations for the first year undergraduate courses for the coming academic year.

All post-graduate colleges in Krishna District will have to follow the syllabus of KU and the university will conduct the examinations for all the Post Graduate and professional college courses in this academic year.
