Sunday turned out to be a different day for many Keralites as they actively participated in the celebrations organised by the Kairale – Malayali Welfare Association on the eve of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

As many as 700 community members residing in Vijayawada and its surroundings took part in the daylong celebrations at Siddhartha Academy Auditorium here. The event was organised in coordination with Andhra Diabetic Research Foundation. Mimicry, dance shows and other cultural programmes were performed during the event left everyone mesmerised.

Association treasurer P.B. Prabhu Raj said, “We have organised the event before the commencement of Christmas and New Year as a majority of the families will be going to their native places in Kerala to celebrate the festivities.” He said community lunch with vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine was also organised for the members.

“We have distributed prizes to all those who took part in the cultural programmes,” he said, adding that exciting gift articles were also given to the participants during a lucky draw. Organisers claimed that the Association was working for the betterment of Keralites in and around Vijayawada. Kairale was the largest Malayalee Association in the region, they added.

A website of Andhra Diabetic Research Foundation was also launched at the event.
