Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday revoked the suspension of Vijayawada Police Commissioner K. V. Rajendranath Reddy nearly two weeks after he was taken off duty following the “escape” of Lagadapati Rajagopal MP from a hospital.

Mr. Reddy, a 1992 batch IPS officer, was placed under suspension on the charge of dereliction of duty on December 21 following the “escape” of Rajagopal from the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada while on an indefinite fast against the proposed bifurcation of the state.

Additional Director General of Police (Crime Investigation Department) Ambati Sivanarayana, who conducted an inquiry into the allegations of dereliction of duty, submitted a report to the government recommending revocation of the suspension of the Police Commissioner and also dropping the charge against him.

Accordingly, State Chief Secretary S. V. Prasad issued an order revoking the suspension of Mr. Reddy.

The period of suspension (December 21 to January 2) spent by the officer would be treated as “on duty”, the Government order said.

However, there has been no mention about the fate of Assistant Commissioner of Police, two inspectors and two sub-inspectors, who too have been placed under suspension in relation to the Rajagopal escapade.
