78 child workers rescued, employers booked

Raids conducted by Labour Department at various places in Krishna district

The Labour Department in association with the National Child Labour Project, Krishna district unit, and some NGOs raided various places and rescued 78 child labourers in the district.

Assistant Commissioner of Labour (ACL) D. Anjaneya Reddy said as per the directions of Collector B. Lakshmikantham, the special drive was conducted at Nuzvid, Vuyyuru, Gudivada, Machilipatnam, Pedana, Pamarru, Jaggaiahpet, Nandigama and other places from February 22.

“Teams led by labour officers and assistant labour officers inspected Kalamkari shops, imitation jewellery shops, mechanic sheds, shops, hotels and other establishments and registered cases against the owners who employed children aged below 14,” Mr. Reddy said.

Open Court

Mr. Anjaneya Reddy said that an Open Court would be conducted at the Sub-Collector’s office here on March 8 at 11 a.m. Employers who were booked under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, Shops and Establishment Act, 1988 and the Child Labour Prohibition Act, 1986 were directed to attend the court. They should also bring along the parents of the children they had employed, Anjaneya Reddy added.
