26 criminal cases pending against Chintamaneni

He was booked on charges of kidnapping, theft, outraging the modesty of women, says affidavit

TDP nominee for Denduluru Assembly segment in West Godavari district and sitting MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar has 26 criminal cases pending against him since 2011, an affidavit submitted along with his 47-page nomination papers said.

He was convicted of using ‘criminal force’ to deter a public servant (IPC 353), criminal intimidation (506(2) of IPC) and molesting a person to prejudice of employment or business (section 7(1) of Criminal Law Amendment Act, the document said. A lower court had sentenced the MLA to six-month RI, apart from a fine of ₹ 1,000. But, it was later suspended by the High Court which is yet to dispose of the main appeal, the affidavit said.

As many as 15 cases were booked against him after when he won the segment for the second time in 2014 and five cases were registered in 2018. However, he has been charged only in five cases so far.

Six cases were booked against him on charge of obstructing public servants from discharging their duties, the affidavit revealed. He was also booked on charges of kidnapping (IPC 363), theft, mischief, gaming, tress-passing, outraging the modesty of women (IPC 354) and several other offences.

He declared movable and immovable assets worth ₹2.40 crore registered in his name.
