‘Recognise Her,’ a voluntary organisation, conducted ‘Her Environmental Rally 2020’ in the city recently as part of the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi.

‘Recognise Her’, with the support of CSR World Creation Social Welfare Trust, Saki, and The Palm, planned to hold workshops in 37 locations across the State for 150 days to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The initiative was launched on August 3 and will continue till January 1, 2020.

The group visited the city on September 16 — 43rd day — and conducted a workshop at Central Workshops, Railway, Golden Rock, on eco-friendly paper bag making.

The workshop was conducted by The Palm, a public charitable trust represented by Malini Kalyanam and N. Varalakshmi.

P. N. Jha, Chief Workshop Manager, Golden Rock, Southern Railway, took part in the event as chief guest.

The presenters demonstrated how single-use plastic bags could be replaced with the help of brown paper, abundantly found in railways offices.

“These paper bags can easily carry approx 1.5 kg of weight and can also be reused before being thrown away when it will serve as compost,” the organisers said.

They also urged the employees to say ‘no’ to single-use plastics and to take ownership of the garbage they accumulated. The trust also launched ‘En Kuppai’ project in the city on Monday.
