Vaishnavism programme inaugurated

To be offered by the Thanjavur Tamil University and the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

The degree, diploma and certificate programmes on ‘Vaishnavism’ offered jointly by the Thanjavur Tamil University and the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple under the distance education mode was formally inaugurated on Thursday.

Vice-Chancellor, Tamil University, G. Bhaskaran inaugurated the programme organised at the University premises in Thanjavur in the presence of some temple trustees.

Under Graduate and Post Graduate degrees besides diploma and certificate courses would be offered under this programme said to be the first of-its-kind initiative between a university and a temple.

In addition to offering M.A. in Vaishnavism, another PG degree course in Sri Bhashyam would also be offered under this tie-up. The Vice Chancellor said that regular contact classes would be organised at Yatri Nivas in Srirangam on weekends engaging scholars.

Programme coordinator N. Jayavidhya said the admissions would commence from Monday. Regular classes were expected to commence after August 15, she added. The degree and diploma certificates would be awarded by the University.
