A week-long training programme in production of documentary and short films organised by ‘Nizhal’, a film magazine, and ‘Padhiyam Thiraipada Iyakkam’ evoked a good response. The programme is aimed at promoting creativity among young artistes and technicians.

Every branch of celluloid industry – cinematography, script writing, editing, communication through visual means without dialogue formed part of the major sessions in which the youths numbering 48 including eight women underwent rigorous training. They underwent training in propaganda theme, variety, album and advertisement.

Divided into groups, the youths produced documentary films during the course of the training period. The youths exhibited their skills in producing documentary on various themes such as ordeals being faced by the visually-challenged, the challenges of transgender, the inconvenience due to unscheduled power shutdowns.

“The effort aims at producing talented artistes across the state. So far, we have screened the documentary and international films in about 400 villages thereby motivating rural youths to understand the nuances of the art of making films,” said P. Tiruvanavukkarasu, resource-person who imparted training to the youths.

He said as a follow-up to the training, the youths would be motivated to produce documentary films on various themes in future and the best among them would be sent to state-level competition.

Vittal Rao, a novelist, who gave away certificates to the trainees, said the training would ensure production of quality films. The talented youths’ distant dream to be a part of film production would be realised through the training, he hoped.
