April 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 02, 2016 03:30 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

The killings of 20 persons of Tamil Nadu in Tirupati evoked protest in Tiruchi with the Naam Tamizhar Katchi members condemning the encounter and the action of the Andhra Pradesh Police.

Carrying their organisation flags, a group of 41 members, led by their district coordinator Prabhu, assembled in front of the Andhra Bank and staged a demonstration denouncing the Andhra Pradesh police for gunning down the 20 Tamil workers.

A posse of police personnel was deployed in front of the bank in the Cantonment area in view of the agitation. The protesters were arrested and taken in a police vehicle. Those arrested were later released.

Meanwhile, a group hurled stones at the Toll Plaza of an Andhra Pradesh-based private company at Thuvakudi on the city’s outskirts damaging the glasses apparently to express their protest.
