After spending the last few months offering poojas and prayers at various temples for the acquittal of AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case, it is now thanksgiving time for the party cadre.

On Friday, a group of 306 partymen tonsured their heads at the Nal Andavar Temple near Manapparai in the Srirangam Assembly constituency in fulfilment of their vow following her acquittal.

Among those who offered their hair were rural district AIADMK treasurer M. Selvaraj and a host of other office-bearers from Manapparai Union. “We are all overjoyed over the release of our leader. When the case was going on, we had offered prayers at the temple and organised annadhanam . Now that our prayers have been answered we fulfilled our vow,” said Mr. Selvaraj said. Many of the office-bearers from Manapparai union had participated in the event, he added.

The partymen also broke 108 coconuts and offered prayers in the temple. T.P.Poonatchi, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries, P.Kumar and T.Rathinavel, MPs, R.Chandrasekar, N.R.Sivapathi, Indira Gandhi and S.Valarmathi, MLAs, and other office-bearers participated in the prayer, Mr.Selvaraj said.
