The Highways Department has taken up a work on providing storm water drainage facility at K.K. Nagar, one of the major residential areas in the city.

As the work involves dredging the earth to a depth of about four feet with an equal width, it is being executed with utmost care, taking into consideration the water pipelines, telephone cables buried in the earth. says an official.

The storm water drainage has been necessary as the rain waters stagnate on the Main Road in K. K. Nagar for a few days after heavy downpour.

“We chose to execute the work on Sunday as most of the commercial establishments remains closed,” the official explained.

The drainage is being set up in a phased manner and in the current phase, it is being executed to a length of 540 metres.

According to officials, the drainage would go a long way in protecting the stability of the road.
