“Stick to conditions laid down by police”

May 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - TIRUCHI:

District Collector K.S.Palanisamy has urged farmers’ representatives to obtain permission before organising agitations and adhere to the conditions laid down by the police, with respect to place and time, while staging such agitations. He was speaking at a meeting with representatives of farmers’ organisations, police, prison and revenue officials here, to discuss recent allegations aired by the Desiya Thennindia Nathigal Inaippu Sangam that their members were ill-treated at the prison after being arrested for staging an agitation. Farmers had raised the issue at the agricultural grievances meeting last month and the Collector had promised to convene a meeting with the police and prison authorities to discuss the issue. At Friday’s meeting, prison officials said there was no ill-treatment as alleged by the association and only routine procedures were followed.

S.Rajeswari, Superintendent of Police, and T.Palani, Superintendent, Central Prison, took part.
