Steps taken to ensure safe train operations

The Tiruchi Railway Division has initiated various steps to ensure safe train operations and introduction of the state-of-the-art solid state interlocking system at the stations was one of the measures in this direction, the Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, P.V.Vaidialingam, said on Monday.

Intensive training was being imparted to the staff in dealing with emergency situations, Mr.Vaidialingam said speaking at the Independence Day celebrations organised by the Division here.

Yoga training

Unfurling the national flag and inspecting the parade by Railway Protection Force personnel at the Kallukuzhi railway ground, he said yoga training was being imparted to the railway staff of the division to improve their alertness.

Highlighting the steps initiated to make travel more comfortable, Mr.Vaidialingam said retiring rooms had been renovated at Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Chidambaram and Kumbakonam railway stations.

Ticketing system

Unreserved Ticketing System and Integrated Unreserved Ticketing System had been provided at different stations. Stating that Tiruchi Division was the second highest freight loading division in the Southern Railway zone, he said the Division surpassed the target during the last financial year.

The Division earned Rs.59.8 crore from passenger business in the first four months of the current fiscal, while the freight earnings touched Rs.94 crore during the same period, he said. Mr.Vaidialingam said that train services in the Needamangalam – Mannargudi new line would be introduced shortly.

The Division had been scaling new heights in its performance ever since the chord line was electrified and the mainline section was opened for traffic after gauge conversion, he added. The Additional Divisional Railway Manager M.Selvaraj and railway staff participated in the celebration, a press release said.
