The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) candidate J. Srinivasan has been elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor of Tiruchi City Corporation.
No one else filed nomination papers except him during the 10-minute period for filing nominations that began at 10.30 a.m. averting the need for the indirect election scheduled for Thursday. M. Vijayalakakshmi, Commissioner, after scrutinising the nomination papers, declared that Mr. Srinivasan had been elected unopposed. She also handed over the winning certificate to Mr. Srinivasan in the presence of R. Chandran, City Engineer, zonal chairmen and council members. Representing 24{+t}{+h}ward in the city, Mr.Srinivasan was the party floor leader in the Corporation Council since 2011. A native of Edatheru in Palakarai, Mr. Srinivasan is serving as district secretary of Jayalalithaa Peravai. He has won from 24{+t}{+h}ward for three terms consecutively since 2001. The Deputy Mayor post fell vacant following the resignation of M. Asick Meera, after being booked in a rape case. Mr.Meera was also present when the election was held.
