A 11-year-old girl and her younger brother drowned in a pond at Kottaikaranpatti near Manapparai on Sunday. The victims were identified as A. Anusuya and A. Nandagopal (9).
The incident occurred when the two children accompanied their mother who went out to graze goats. Even as the woman was grazing goats, the children went to the nearby pond and drowned in it, police sources said.
Thinking that her children would have returned back, the woman went home only to find that they haven’t returned. Immediately the woman and her husband went in search of their kids and found them dead in the pond.
