Security has been tightened in railway stations falling under the Tiruchi Railway Division in connection with the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has mobilised their complete strength to carry out security checks in railway stations including Tiruchi, Vriddhachalam, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Cuddalore and Kumbakonam.

Reserve strength had been deployed at major stations within the division to act in times of emergency.

Parcels dispatched through trains and the belongings of rail travellers were being subjected to checks at the stations on the eve of the anniversary, RPF sources here said.

A team of RPF personnel checked parcels and the luggages of passengers at Tiruchi Junction on Sunday.

The security checks were carried out utilising personnel attached to the bomb squad. Pamphlets were distributed to passengers containing messages appealing to them not to touch or tamper with suspicious looking objects.
