Encouraged by the success of World Food India (WFI) event held two years ago, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries is all set to roll out the second edition in November.
The 2017 event witnessed the participation of 61 countries, footfall of more than 75,000, more than 8,000 business-to-business meetings and MoUs worth $14 billion. This year’s event, having the tagline “Forging partnerships for growth”, will be held from November 1 to 4, according to Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameswar Teli.
Inaugurating a National Conference on Emerging Technologies in Food Processing at the Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology here on Friday, Mr. Teli said adoption of technological advancements in food processing was the need of the hour as it would effectively minimise the post-harvest loss of grains and other edibles. Be it pulse or any other produce like the world-famous tea produced from Assam, the post-harvest loss was of great concern.
New technologies would help better in processing, preservation and enriching the nutritional values of food products and their intermediates, he added.
Addressing the gathering, director, ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, C.N. Ravishankar said irrespective of the technology adopted for processing of food, be it thermal or non-thermal, the ‘lab to land’ exercise should ensure that the final product reached the common man at a cost affordable for him.
Delivering the welcome address, IIFPT director C.Anandharamakrishnan said a neera bottling plant set up at the institute to help farmers tap the market for the drink would be inaugurated on August 15. The plant would serve as a launch pad for farmers to market their produce and set their own bottling plant once they built up an assured market for their product.
