Search on for missing girl

The Kumbakonam West police and fire service personnel on Wednesday continued their search for a girl suspected to have gone missing in the Cauvery.

Pandi, 45, of Pathadi Palam area near Kumbakonam reportedly threw his daughters, aged 11 and 7, into the Arasalar on Tuesday afternoon.

While the 11-year-old was immediately rescued by passers by, police and fire service personnel, who came to the spot on receiving information, mounted a search for the younger girl till late in the night. They resumed their search down stream of the Cauvery on Wednesday, in vain, police said.

Pandi, said to be an alcoholic, had a misunderstanding with his spouse and was reportedly drunk when he acted in a fit of rage.
