A two-year-old girl was run over by a school van at Udayanpatti village near Pulivalam on Thursday. The name of the victim was identified as A. Vanishka.
Police sources said the child’s mother Jayanthi went to receive her relative’s daughters who were coming by a van of a private school in Tiruvellarai.
The woman was apparently unaware that her child was following her. Even as the woman was receiving her relative’s daughter, her child came close to the van. The driver moved the vehicle and the child fell down and came under its wheels and died on the spot, the sources said.
Van driver Kesavan (37) of Tiruvellarai was arrested. The Pulivalam police have registered a case.
