Saplings distributed

Saplings were distributed to students of a government school near Peravurani on Saturday by the staff of National Institute of Ocean Technology.

The saplings, consisting of coconut and other varieties , were distributed to 500 students of Government High School, Kalathur, who belonged to villages affected by cyclone Gaja affected villages

The team from NIOT, headed by senior scientist R.Venkatesan, also distributed saplings to 1,000 families in the region.

In all, 3,100 saplings were distributed on Saturday.

With this, NIOT employees have so far distributed 20,000 saplings in Gaja-affected areas. The initiative was supported by members of Parent-Teacher Association and Uyirthuli, an NGO.
