Mount Litera Zee School, Tiruchi, put up a stellar show yet again emerging the champion of Tiruchi for the third time in a row in The Hindu Young World Quiz competition held here on Friday.

It was undoubtedly a moment to cherish for Aneesur Rahman, a standard VIII student of the Mount Litera School, as he has been part of the winning team for three consecutive years.

Brilliance of the young minds came to the fore at the contest that was filled with thrill and excitement till the very last round. The finals, in which top six teams got through, was a photo finish keeping the audience at the edge of their seats.

In a closely-fought battle between Mount Litera and the team representing Sri Akilandeswari Vidyalaya, a wrong answer by the latter in the penultimate question cost it dear and lost 10 points in negative marking.

The 17th edition of the annual quiz contest in Tiruchi Region saw the participation of 260 teams this time with The Hindu ’s resident quiz master V.V. Ramanan shooting a slew of questions to the participating students. Six top teams were selected for the grand final based on their scores in the preliminary round of written test.

The schools which successfully made it to the finals were Sri Vageesha Vidyashram, Tiruchi; TNPL Public School, Karur, Chettinad Vidya Mandir, Karur, Aditya Birla Public School, Ariyalur, Mount Litera Zee School, Tiruchi, and Sri Akilandeswari Vidyalaya, Tiruchi.

Questions were from the various categories – ‘Do You Know,’ ‘Question the Quiz Master,’ ‘Photo Play,’ ‘Jai Hind’ and ‘Sight and Sound.’ Sri Akilandeswari Vidyalaya garnered a lead but was closely followed by Mount Litera Zee School in the finals. In the end, the team lost crucial points. The final question decided the fate of the top two teams with Mount Litera Zee School emerging champions for the third time in a row amid huge applause from the audience.

Questions which the six teams could not reply went to the audience, who vied with one another to answer and win goodies for right answers.

The Mount Litera team, represented by Aneesur Rahman and Syed Tahir Ali, scored 126 points. Sri Akilandeswari Vidyalaya represented by T.N. Sri Krishnan and P. Srinivasa Raghavan finished runner up with 120 points.

The winning team was presented with bicycles, trophy, cash prize and certificate. The other five teams were also presented with trophy, certificates and cash prizes. Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, gave away prizes to the top six teams.

The quiz was presented by Camlin Mechanical Pencils with the venue partner being BHEL, Tiruchi. BSA Lady-bird and Hercules were the national sponsors. The regional sponsors were Master Group of Institutions and TIME (Triumphant Institute of Management Education).
