Pulse Polio on January 18

An estimated 2.67 lakh children below the age of five would be administered the oral polio vaccine during the Pulse Polio campaign to be held on January 18 in Tiruchi district.

About 6,740 personnel would be deployed to carry out the immunisation through 1,567 camps, Collector K.S. Palanisami said speaking at a coordination meeting with district officials here on Friday.

About 1,310 camps will be set up in rural areas and 259 in urban centres of the district.

About 1.76 lakh children in the rural areas, 90,306 in urban centres, about 400 migrant children, and 266 children in the Sri Lankan refugee camps would be covered under the programme.

Special camps would be set up to administer the drops to children 53 places, including Srirangam, Gunaseelam, Samayapuram, Vayalur, mosques, churches, and places of tourist interest, railway stations, bus stands, and the city airport. Seventy mobile teams would be pressed into service.

Arrangements have been made in association with the Railways to administer the oral vaccine to children travelling by trains passing through Tiruchi.

All children below the age of five, irrespective of having been administered the vaccine previously, should be administered the drops, Mr. Palanisami said.
