Protest held

Members of political parties and organisations on Wednesday staged a demonstration opposing alleged attempts by the Centre to impose Hindi on non-Hindi speaking citizens.

Participating in the demonstration held near Head Post Office, the protesters, led by Thamizhar Desiya Munnani general secretary Ayannapuram C. Murugesan, raised slogans condemning the Centre for trying to impose Hindi on non-Hindi speaking States. They accused it of toeing the RSS line in language policy.

CPI State Committee member R. Thirugnanam, CPI Thanjavur district secretary M.A. Bharathi, CPI(M) Thanjavur district secretary G. Neelamegam, Thamizh Desa Makkal Munnani district secretary B. Arunshorie, Thalanmai Uzhavar Iyakkam founder G. Thirunavukkarasu, demonstration coordinator Durai. Madhivanan and others participated.
