Enthusiasm writ large on their faces, school students converged in large numbers at Geetha Mahal on Wednesday to prove their mettle in inter-school painting competition conducted under the aegis of The Hindu in School.

The competition organised by The Ramco Cements Limited on topics of significance to society and environment attracted 255 students from 73 schools in the district.

Organised to coincide with Children’s Day celebration, the event meant creating awareness of cleanliness, rainwater harvesting, global warming and plogging.

Collector D. Rathna distributed cash prizes and certificates to winners.
