Overnight rain inundates low-lying areas in Pudukottai

Heavy overnight rain left some of the low-lying areas inundated in Pudukottai town on Tuesday.

Several parts of the district received moderate to heavy rainfall on Monday evening. Pudukottai town recorded 44 mm, which led to water-logging in some low-lying areas. Rainwater remained stagnant in some places such as Santhanathaswamy Temple and Flower Bazaar on Tuesday morning forcing municipal authorities to deploy motor pump sets to drain the water from the temple. Municipal workers also drained the water from Flower Bazaar.

However, it was Keeranur that recorded the maximum rainfall of 110 mm during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday. Thirumayam recorded 78 mm, Kudimiyanmalai 68 mm, Annavasal 60 and Gandharvakottai 55 mm.

Parts of neighbouring district of Thanjavur also received heavy rain on Monday with Thanjavur town recording 98 mm of rainfall during the same period. But Pattukottai recorded a heavier downpour at 112.20 mm. Kurunkulam (64 mm), Budalur (34.20 mm) and Ayyampettai (31 mm) also recorded good rainfall.

Mayiladuthurai (51 mm) in Nagapattinam district and Needamangalam (34.8 mm) in tiruvarur diatrict were among other places that received good rainfall on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, Tiruchi city received sharp showers on Tuesday evening after scattered rainfall on Monday. The dry Manapparai and Marungapuri region continued to receive good spells.
