One killed, 7 injured in Tiruchi road accident

A driver of a goods carrier was killed and seven others were injured in a road accident involving the goods carrier and a State Transport Corporation bus near Bharathidasan University on the Tiruchi-Pudukottai national highway on Sunday evening.

The accident led to traffic hold-up for nearly an hour on the highway. The goods carrier was proceeding towards Pudukottai when the driver, Kumaresan, overtook a lorry that was going ahead.

The goods carrier dashed against the Tiruchi-bound bus from Aranthangi. The bus driver lost control and the vehicle dashed against the compound of the university. The front windshield of the bus was damaged in the accident, police sources said. Kumaresan died in the accident which led to traffic hold-up.
