A section of employees of the Revenue and Rural Development departments staged a sit-in agitation at the Pudukottai Collector’s Office on Monday in protest against the inter-district transfer of tashildars and block development officers ahead of the Lok Sabha election.

Members of the Tamil Nadu Revenue Officials Association, Tamil Maanila Revenue Department Officials Association and Tamil Nadu Rural Development Officials Association, participated in the protest. They staged similar agitations in all taluk officials in protest against the inter-district transfer of officials.

The agitators claimed that as many as 47 tahsildhars and 29 block development officers of Pudukottai district have been transferred overnight to other districts including Tiruchi, Sivagangai and Nagapattinam. They were relieved from their duties immediately. The agitators demanded that the Election Commission of India and the State government should revoke the transfer orders.

The associations said they will continue the agitation until their demand was conceded.
