Officials briefed on guidelines for revision of electoral rolls

Authorities from seven districts attend training programme

Officers of Tiruchi and six neighbouring districts were briefed on the guidelines for the special summary revision 2012 of the electoral rolls, here on Friday.

The summary revision is to be carried out with January 1, 2012, as the qualifying date. Collector Jayashree Muralidharan, who inaugurated the training programme, emphasised the importance of carrying out the summary revision exercise properly and thoroughly as accurate electoral rolls were essential for the democratic process. Officers involved in carrying out the summary revision should avoid going on leave during the exercise.

Field officers should visit door-to-door to check whether the names of the residents have been included in the electoral rolls and also details such as migration, change of residence, addition, deletion and correction of names. They should also collect the mobile phone numbers and e-mail address of the voters. The officers should extend their full cooperation in carrying out the summary revision accurately, she said.

Electoral registration officers, assistant electoral registration officers, election deputy tahsildars and election section computer programme officers from Tiruchi, Karur, Dindigul, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Perambalur and Nagapattinam districts participated in the programme. The training was conducted by N.Palani, Personal Assistant (General) to Collector, Kancheepuram, and J.Jawaharlal Nehru, Deputy Tahsildhar, Tiruchi.

Tiruchi Corporation Commissioner K.Veera Raghava Rao and P.Manickam, District Revenue Officer, also attended the meeting.
