The Tiruchi Rural Police have launched a mobile application christened ‘Kaveri Kavalan’ to enable public lodge complaints and pass on information making use of the facility without having to visit the police station. The app could also be used by the public to convey information to the police if they were to go out of station keeping their house locked.

The bilingual app to lodge complaints in Tamil or English was launched by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range, V. Balakrishnan here on Friday in the presence of Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi, Ziaul Haque and Superintendent of Police, Ariyalur, V.R. Srinivasan.

The e-initiative is to enable public lodge complaints pertaining to traffic violations, accidents, public nuisance by making use of the app without having to visit the police station, DIG Balakrishnan told reporters while inaugurating the facility. The initiative which has been launched in Tiruchi Rural Police would be introduced in Karur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur and Perambalur districts in due course.

Public could register or sign up into the Kaveri Kavalan mobile application after downloading it from Google Play Store by giving their name, email address, phone number, town name and detailed address. They could also give the emergency name and number.

The general public residing within the jurisdiction of Tiruchi Rural Police limits could also view details regarding traffic inspectors, police divisions and women police stations in the app. Prior to uploading the complaint, public would have to enter their name, e-mail address, phone number and select the police station of their location. The type of complaint to be made could also be selected from the app.

The uploaded complaint would be sent directly to the Tiruchi District Police control room where police personnel in shifts would keep monitoring them. The complainant could check the acknowledgement of their complaint in the notification section once their complaint was sent.

The complaint would be shared to the jurisdictional police station for prompt action, DIG Balakrishnan said adding that photos and videos of some emergency situations could also be posted in the app.

Information on issues such as sand smuggling could also given making use of the app and the identity of those passing such information would be kept secret, he further said.
