Farmers who took part in the farmers’ grievance day meeting at the Collectorate here on Friday thanked the Collector for announcing that a meeting with them to discuss ‘kudimaramathu’ scheme would be convened soon.

Ever since the State government declared allocation of fund for implementing ‘kudimaramathu’ scheme, farmers have pleaded that their views should also be taken into consideration before finalising the works.

Much to their surprise, Collector A. Annadurai said it was being contemplated to hold discussions with farmers before identifying works.

The farmers said the proposed exercise would be of help in carrying out desilting and other works.

Further, they also welcomed the announcement that the company implementing the crop insurance scheme in Thanjavur district had been changed, a demand raised by the farmers consistently in the recent past. It was announced that hereafter the scheme would be implemented by Chennai-based Agriculture Insurance India Limited company for the next three years and the new insurer had been directed to open block-level offices for the convenience of farmers.
